The Edexcel BTEC Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Diploma (HND) are highly regarded, nationally and internationally recognised, undergraduate level programmes, equivalent to the first and second year of a university degree course.  They are at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework. 

The HNC and HND courses have been developed by UK employers and Edexcel for those who wish to achieve real practical skills across a range of Health and Social Care areas and they provide at the same time the necessary vocational (job-related) knowledge required for workers in the Health and Social Care sector.

These Health and Social Care programmes have been designed to equip individuals with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for employment in Health & Social Care, both in the UK and overseas.  These qualifications meet and exceed the National minimum standard of qualification set by the Care Quality Commission for those practising in Health & Social Care in the UK.

The course is suitable for all those already working in the sector who wishes to gain practical skills and a formal NQF Level 5 qualification in order to progress to supervisor or junior management level roles.

Progression:
On successful completion of the HNC students can progress to the HND course by studying a further 6 modules.

Progression options from HND Health and Social Care include :
 

Final year  'Top-Up' degree programmes or  Postgraduate Diploma validated by many leading UK universities.

To gain an HNC award a student must complete 10 units, with a further 6 units required to achieve the HND qualification.  Students should expect to spend at least 20 hours a week on their studies including class room lectures, directed self study and private study on assignments.   The College operates a system of 4 terms each year, each with 10 weeks of taught classes.  Students will usually expect to study 3 or 4 units during each term.

Each unit is assessed by one or more of the following methods and all assessments are externally verified by Edexcel : assignments, individual or group presentations, projects, or examinations.

Entry Requirements

UK and EU students •Other UK Level 3 qualification •Mature students (over 21) with suitable work experience International students •'A' level standard, or overseas equivalent (e.g. 12 years education) •Other UK Level 3 qualification •Mature students (over 21) with suitable work experience •IELTS 5.5/PTE 43-51/TOEFL iBT 62-76 or equivalent is required where English is not your first language. All students applying for this programme must show evidence of having taken a recognised secure English language test and achieved a minimum of CEFR level B1 (IELTS 4.0) in all four components - reading, writing, listening and speaking. In addition, any students who do not meet the minimum English language entry requirements of IELTS 5.5 in all 4 components will be required to take pre-sessional English prior to commencing their academic studies.
